Great stays

We’re always getting asked by our customers for our top camp spots. So, here’s our top five recommended sites in the south west to pitch up your SUGOI van!
We started SUGOI after years of wonderful camping and caravanning holidays. From trailer tents to static caravan stays, we’ve done it all! And we’ve taken our family all along the South Coast, exploring these wonderful spots together.
Before you start – just a quick note. As a quiet family, we don’t tend to stay at sites with lots of entertainment or leisure facilities. All of these spots are perfect for a relaxing getaway, but if you’re a longstanding Butlins-goer, you may miss the activities to keep your kids occupied.
So, we thought, why not share that with you? Here’s a roundup of our top five camping sites.
1. Monkton Wyld, Dorset
Nestled in the iconic Jurassic Coast, Monkton Wyld is just a stone’s throw away from Charmouth and Lyme Regis. So you can take the family fossil hunting on the beach, or join the hustle and bustle of Lyme Regis high street and beach.
With wonderful, spacious pitches surrounded by green, we fell in love with this site. There’s great spots for everyone, including secluded dog walks and popular play areas for the kids.
Stop for a breather at Monkton Wyld’s wildflower and orchid meadows. The site has been awarded the David Bellamy Gold Award for ten years in a row, for their outstanding contribution to wildlife and the local environment.

2. Compton Farm, Isle of Wight
A charming farm dating back to 1086, Compton Farm offers stunning views and an opportunity to get back to nature, with a completely off-grid experience. Set within National Trust land, there are plenty of adventures to be had on land or water.
Discover wildflowers on the iconic Compton Downs, or catch some waves at the gorgeous Compton Beach. Back at the farm, children and adults alike can enjoy the cows, sheep, chickens and various other animals as part of your stay.
Please note there is no electric hook up at this site. Even more reason to get that solar panel fitted now!

3. Dornafield, Newton Abbott
Heading on over to south Devon, Dornafield is a site not to be missed! We stayed in Blackrock Copse and loved every second. With a whole trophy case full of awards, here’s just a few titles that Dornafield has won over the years:
- AA Platinum Five Pennant Park
- AA South West Campsite of the Year, with Platinum Award facilities
- Caravan & Motorhome Club Affiliated Site
- David Bellamy Conservation Gold Award
- Bellamy BBKA Honey Bee Friendly Park
But what’s all the fuss about? Dornafield offers spacious pitches, daily bakery deliveries, a games room and kids play area. Together with its beautiful dog walking fields, we know you’ll be thrilled with your stay.

4. Dartmouth Camping and Caravanning Club Site, Dartmouth
A regular getaway for us, Dartmouth is best known for it’s stunning harbour. Just around the corner is Darmouth Camping and Caravanning Club Site.
And there are beaches a plenty – Blackpool Sands is within walking distance – Slapton Sands, Torcross, Beesand Beach and Hall Sands are all a short drive away. Immerse yourself in the Devon countryside and coastline, with great opportunities for walking, cycling, sailing and surfing right on your doorstep.
Another site with generous pitches, as well as a large camping field, it’s a great choice for your next adventure.
5. Holmsely, New Forest
Here’s one for the history buffs – Holmsley is built upon the site of an old World War II Airfield! Boasting a children’s play park, designated cycling routes and access to stunning forest hikes and mountain biking, there’s certainly something for everyone.
Escape into nature for a first-hand experience of all that the New Forest National Park has to offer. From ponies to donkeys, you’re sure to see it all right on your doorstep.
Holmsley has both standard and premium pitches available (600 in total, mostly grass), plus a separate rally field.

We hope you found this collection useful. They’re tried and tested by our family, and we’d love to hear if you stay in any of these sites. Tag us in your photos on Instagram and Facebook!
